Benefits of Moissanite

Value
In comparison to many other gemstones, Moissanite has a lower carat price per carat.

Mining Free
Moissanite is lab-created with minimal impact on the environment.

Durability
In terms of hardness, Moissanite gemstones measure 9.25 on the Mohs Scale.

What is Moissanite?

What is Moissanite?

The gemstone Moissanite was created by the stars. Henri Moissan, a French scientist who later won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, discovered it first in 1893. The gem that bears his name was discovered within a crater caused by a meteorite that fell to Earth in Arizona. The crystals he discovered were composed of silicon carbide, instead of diamonds as he initially thought.

The moissanite available today was created in a laboratory, since natural moissanite is extremely rare. One of the world's most scintillating gemstones was synthesized from the particles Moissan discovered after many years of trial and error.

Diamond simulants, such as Moissanite, give the illusion of similarity to diamonds, but are compositionally and visually quite different from real diamonds. There are some significant differences between the two gems in terms of their durability, brilliance, and color. As very good thermal conductors, diamonds and moissanites have one thing in common.

Durability
The Mohs Scale of Hardness measures how well gemstones resist scratching on their surfaces.
Considering Moissanite's hardness of 9.25, it is suitable for everyday wear on the Mohs scale.
Mohs Scale of Hardness rates diamonds as the hardest mineral.
The exceptional durability of diamonds makes them ideal for daily wear. As a result, they are popular as the center gemstones of engagement rings.
Brilliance
Gems have brilliance as a result of reflected light from their interiors.
Because Moissanites have a different faceting pattern than diamonds, they exhibit a different kind of brilliance. Some love moissanites' fiery, rainbow flashes, while others believe its heightened brilliance creates a "disco ball" effect, especially in sunlight. In general, the bigger the moissanite, the more noticeable the difference will be. Natural diamonds have a refractive index of 2.65 - 2.69, while moissanite has a refractive index of 2.65 - 2.69.
Moissanite differs from diamond in its brilliance. There are three ways in which diamonds reflect light. The white light reflected back from the diamond is called brilliance, while the rainbow of colors refracted through the diamond is called dispersion. Another type of diamond light return is scintillation, the surface sparkle of a diamond. Diamonds are famous for their sparkle because of the combination of these three factors.
Color
In gemstones, color refers to the natural color or lack of color that can be seen.
In some lights, moissanites can still appear yellow or grayish despite being labeled "colorless.". The larger the moissanite, the more noticeable the color. Whether natural or lab-created, a colorless diamond has a brilliant white appearance due to its absence of yellow, brown, or grey traces.
Price Diamonds of the same size are dramatically more expensive than moissanites. The price of Moissanite gems typically depends only on the size and whether it is a Premium or Super Premium stone. The price of natural diamonds and lab created diamonds varies based on their shape, carat, cut, color, and clarity. Natural diamonds are more expensive than lab-created diamonds.
Sourcing Moissanites are an eco-friendly gemstone because they are lab created rather than mined. In addition to Beyond Conflict Free ™ Diamonds, which have been selected for their ethical and environmentally responsible origins, we also offer lab created diamonds that are ethically grown.

Moissanite Origins

Unlike minerals that are mined, moissanites are grown in controlled environments using advanced technology. As a result, their origins can be traced easily.
The carbon footprint of lab-created moissanites is smaller than that of natural gemstones. It is a responsible choice to choose jewelry made from moissanites and recycled metals.

Selecting a Moissanite

A moissanite is graded solely based on its color, unlike diamonds, which are graded on the 4 Cs (Cut, Clarity, Color, Carat). Different moissanites have similar cut and clarity grades. OfferAny offers Premium and Super Premium moissanites. As per the 4 C's scale, Premium moissanites are nearly colorless and fall in the G-H range in color, while Super Premium moissanites fall in the D-F range.
Moissanite is often considered with natural diamond accents when considering a jewelry piece. When set in rings with diamond accents, moissanites look stunning. This image shows an oval moissanite set in a three stone setting with diamond accents.

Lab Created Diamonds

For a diamond of similar size and quality, lab diamonds are typically 30% cheaper than naturally mined diamonds. Lab-created diamonds are identical to mined diamonds in terms of their physical, chemical, and optical properties. In addition to sparkle, fire, and scintillation, they also exhibit the same properties. Also, since they do not require mining, they are an attractive option for those seeking an eco-friendly gemstone.

Dazzling Settings

Choosing a smaller center diamond and enhancing its visual impact with a more elaborate setting is a gorgeous way to find an engagement ring within your budget. By surrounding your smaller center diamond with accent diamonds, you can create a dazzling look for less than by using larger center diamonds. A halo engagement ring features a center gemstone completely encircled by sparkling diamond accents, thereby making the gem appear larger. Three-stone settings, which feature one smaller gem on each side of the center diamond, are another great option.
